Is it Hot Out?

Today at the homeless shelter was basically the same as the beginning of the week, however the heat index at 9:00am was 138 degrees. The morning went very well. Arie and Jason were working on sanding and applying drywall compound to the walls. Janelle, Calvin and Olivia stopped sanding in the room they were working on at noon and started to do the taping of the stairwell that Gavin, Simon and Hal just finished.

After lunch the heat became oppressive. Meghan Burley said "it was hot" Jon, Allison, Joe, Meghan and Tara were hanging drywall in the back room behind the stairwell and completed quite a bit of the room.

Hadleigh and Brynne worked with our staff leader Jeremiah on insulating some of the walls so Jon's group could hang the drywall.

The Chupacabra's spent the day working on the railing and finishing off the bathroom and windows. Meanwhile Andrea made praline brownies, po-boys and beans for the picnic at Fountainbleu State Park. Andrea's mom stopped by to donate some clothes to our group, from Andrea's sister - an artist from New Orleans. One of her projects is the Muses - a group of women who decorate shoes to distribute at an annual parade in New Orleans. Catherine has the t-shirt to prove it.

I had a chance to introduce Jeremiah to Crossfit. I found some large pipe on the site so we could do a little Crossfit workout. Tara video taped the whole thing so you can ask her to see it. We did box jumps and overhead squats in that heat. It was horrible.

We are looking forward to finishing strong tomorrow and head to Meridian, MS for the night and then head to Mt. Vernon on Saturday morning.
